Description:

During this fascinating tour, I will introduce you to the “white pearl of Alava” – Salinas de Añana Salt Valley, which is recognized as a historical and artistic monument of national scale, and recently received the Europa Nostra award.

Salt terraces, connected by a network of wooden canals through which salt water flows, produce salt in a traditional way since the Roman Empire. It is currently one of the most outstanding and well-preserved salt developments in Europe with a unique landscape of 5,000 salt terraces, half of which are active.

During the tour, you will learn what was on this place millions of years ago, see how salt is extracted, and you can try yourself in this business, as well as taste various types of salt. And at the end of the tour you can take beneficial salt baths in a salt spa for feet and hands in the open air.

After exploring the salt terraces, we can walk through the village of Salinas de Anyana, which has preserved medieval buildings and baroque mansions.

At the end of the tour, if desired, lunch in a restaurant in a historic 16th century building. A menu of traditional Basque cuisine using salt from Salinas de Anyana.
