Castelsardo and the thermal springs of Casteldoria
Description:
The first stop during our exciting trip to Castelsardo will be the baths of Casteldoria. Water in local sources has valuable antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and decongestant properties, largely due to their volcanic origin. In some places there is access to therapeutic mud, so if you want to improve your health, you can take advantage of this unique opportunity and swim in the healing waters.
After that, you will go straight to the most famous sight of the surroundings of Castelsardo - Grotta del'Elephante, a stone statue of an elephant created by nature, which stores the oldest tombs of Domus de Janas. The elephant, almost 2 meters high, stands right by the road, welcoming passing tourists. After that, you will head to Castelsardo itself, a city that rises above the sea on a rocky cape in the Gulf of Asinara. It is located at the foot of a medieval fortress built on a rock. Castelsardo is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the Mediterranean. The town attracts tourists with ancient architecture, hospitable restaurants and souvenir shops. Castelsardo is known worldwide for its wicker basket production. Along the narrow streets of the city in the open doors of the houses, you will see Sardinian old women weaving colorful straw baskets and offering them for sale. You will also climb to the ancient castle, formerly owned by the Genoese Doria family, and our guide will tell you its history. Today, within the walls of the castle there is a museum of wicker products. From here, from panoramic sites, wonderful views of the sea and the city open.
You can dine in one of the restaurants of the city, which are distinguished by exceptional cuisine. Typical dishes of this area are dishes based on fish and seafood, in particular lobster or lobster. We also advise you to taste wine from the town of Badezy, located nearby. These wines are famous throughout the island not only for their excellent quality, but also for their fortress.
