Messina

Fountain of Neptune

Description:

This is one of two water monuments of Messina, created by the talented artist Giovanni Angelo Montorsoli - the apprentice of Michelangelo himself. In the center of a large round bowl is the mighty god Neptune, who guards Messina from storms and storms. In his hand - a trident, and in the immediate surroundings - lush sirens.

The age of the fountain exceeds four and a half centuries. It used to stand right in the port among the docks, and then it was moved to Piazza Unita d'Italia in front of the Palazzo del Governo, the administrative building in which the local prefecture sits.
