Tsiza Palace
Description:
The Palace of Tsiza, otherwise it is also called the Fortress, is located in the center of Palermo on the square of the same name (piazza Zisa). Its name comes from the Arabic word al-Aziza (“shining”). According to scientists, the construction of the palace was completed in 1175.
Seventeenth. The palace was rebuilt, erecting another floor, and adding a grand staircase according to the then fashion. The interior of the palace was once again remodeled in the XIX century.
In the 70-80s of the XX century, when the palace has already passed into the ownership of Sicily, restoration work was carried out in it, but in 1971 the northern wing of the building collapsed, which was later restored.
Despite the medieval laconic architecture, the palace building looks beautiful and harmonious. It was built by Muslim masters for the Normans, who adopted many elements of Arab culture in Sicily. This is due to the original and ventilation system of the palace.
Currently, the Museum of Islamic Art is located in Tziza.
