Rizo Palace
Via Vittorio Emanuele, 365, 90134 Palermo, Italy
Description:
Palazzo Riso is a regional contemporary art museum located in Palermo. It is one of the most important in the region.
The architecture of Palazzo Riso clearly refers to the Sicilian Baroque, even though some of its elements were later transformed into neoclassical. The construction of this building, designed by architect Joseph Marvuglia, was completed in 1784.
It became the property of Prince Belmonte, and in the XIX century passed to Baron Rizo. During World War II, the building was damaged by bombardments, rebuilt only by the mid-1990s, and the Museum of Modern Art only settled here in 2008.
The museum’s expositions include works by contemporary Italian artists, including Andrea Di Marco, Alessandro Bazan, Giovanni Anselmo, Emilio Isgro, Domenico Mangano, Antonio Sanfilippo, Carl Accardi, Christian Boltanski and many others.
