Modern art gallery. Vatican
Description:
One of the most charming parts of the Apostolic Palace - the halls of the XII century and the apartments of Pope Borgia today are given to the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, founded in 1973. The greatest philanthropist in history, the Catholic Church, realizing that art is the language of the Holy Spirit in which he speaks to us and we only need to learn to understand his grammar, made a bold step to meet modern masters, initially rejected by this very Church.
Despite the young age for the Vatican, the collection amazes with wealth: early Kandinsky, Marc Chagall, Frank Bacon, Salvador Dali, Auguste Rodin, Paul Klee, Giorgio Chirico, Henri Matisse, George Rouault, Lucio Fontana and many other masters, whose canvases tell the thoughts, feelings, hopes and tragedies of our time, the history of the XX century.
Perhaps this is why images are so often rejected, and sometimes ridiculed, and sarcastic: “Sorry, did you call it a work of art?” Nevertheless, the halls of the Gallery of Modern Art attract to themselves like a magnet, forcing, peering into deformed figures, and sometimes full of abstractions to think, now not about the past pages of history, but about our present day and our future, to look again for man’s place in this world and reflect on his relationship with God. Looking into the eyes of today’s world is not easy, but sometimes you feel the need to do it and then you should visit the Museum of Modern Art of the Vatican.
Nota: This tour can be combined with a visit to the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Cathedral and other Vatican Museums.
