Rome

At the beginning. Museum of Early Christian Art. Vatican

Description:

Has Christianity changed over the centuries? Councils, schisms, struggle for power, horrors of the Inquisition. Even translations of the gospel itself sometimes carry significant differences. And yet, we somehow miraculously understand that the Bible is not outdated, it continues to carry within itself the light of Truth, which over the centuries has been cluttered with dogmas and theological disputes, and today eludes us, but nevertheless there is. But how do you reach him?

In the Vatican Museums, away from the famous galleries and halls, there is a cozy wing. It almost does not attract visitors, because its exhibits at first glance are simple and artless, they do not have monumentality and grandeur. They were created by the first Christians who did not seek the wealth of the world. They sought to pass on in stone the pure and unblemished trace of Jesus’ teaching to the generations that would come after them.

On this excursion, visiting the Museum of Early Christian Art, we will read these messages, preserved to this day in the reliefs of sarcophagi, words and symbols carved on marble, decorating everyday objects of the first centuries of our era.
