The Vatican Gardens are the oldest in Europe and perhaps one of the most famous in the world. Centuries after centuries of successive popes changed their appearance, favoring a summer vacation or simply wanting to destroy the innovations of his predecessor. The collection of plants was constantly replenished, the rarest exhibits of world flora found a hospitable home here. Magnificent gardens were formed in English, Italian and French styles. The architects were not inferior to the gardeners - in many corners of the park appeared surprisingly beautiful, light and ornate pavilions for summer holidays, where the Popes under the symphony of fountain jets could hide from the Roman heat and daily worries.
Even the ideas of the loggia and the secret garden were born here, where spirituality was connected with art and nature. In recent decades, the popes have not changed the habits of their predecessors, they continue to walk along the garden paths, erect gazebos in their favorite corners and even receive high-ranking guests in their luxurious Papal Gardens.
If you want to be among the guests of the Vatican Gardens during your Roman holidays, make sure to book your excursion in advance. It will be cheaper to join a group formed by the Museums themselves, but if the budget allows, it is still better to enjoy the Gardens with an individual guide.
