Trinit dei Monti Church

Piazza della Trinita dei Monti, 00187 Roma, Italia

Description:

The church of Trinit dei Monti was built with the money of the French crown, donated by Ludwig XII. The construction of the church lasted from 1502 to 1585. The French king wanted to celebrate the victory of the French in Naples. During Napoleon’s occupation of Rome, the church was attacked and looted. At the beginning of the XIX century began the restoration of the temple.

The facade of the church is made in a strict classical style by architect Carlo Maderna. It is decorated with a wide portal in the frame of the columns, and is also crowned with an attic with a large balustrade. No less significant attraction of the cathedral is the staircase of the famous Domenico Fontana, decorated with ancient capitals and bas-reliefs.

The interior of the temple is dominated by an amazing image of the Mother of God, which is called “Mater Admirabilis”.
