Plaza Barberini
Piazza Barberini, 00187 Roma, Italy
Description:
Plaza Barberini is located in the historic center of Rome, between the Gardens of Sallustia and the Quirinal Hill. The name of the square is given by the palace of the same name adjacent to it, the entrance to which in the 19th century was moved to the nearby Four Fountains Street. The center of Barberini is decorated with the Triton Fountain, built by Bernini in the 17th century after the construction of the palace. Nearby there is a small Fountain of Bees by the same master.
The creation of the square dates back to the 16th century, but the surrounding buildings have undergone significant changes during this time. In the 17-19 centuries in the center of Barberini stood an ancient obelisk, later transferred to the Villa Medici. Currently, under the square is the station of the same name of the Roman metro, built here in 1980.
