Republic Square

Roma, Italy

Description:

The Republic Square is located in the center of Rome, near the Termini station. From it originates one of the main streets of the city of Via Nationale. Under the square is the line "A" of the Roman metro, and the station "Republica - Theatre del Opera". Until the 1940s, the square was called Exedra. Some locals still call it that. The old name was given in honor of the huge exedra of Diocletian, which is a semicircular deep niche with a dome.

Today, Republic Square is famous for the magnificent Nayad fountain located in its center, depicting four naked nymphs. It was built in 1901 by the famous sculptor Mario Rutelli. In the northern part of the square is the magnificent church of Santa Maria degli Angeli. To get here, you need to drive to Termini station or to the metro station "Republika", and then walk for about 10 minutes.

Every year this place attracts many tourists who want to enjoy unique architectural monuments. On weekdays it is quite crowded, Republic Square is very popular among young people. On weekends and holidays, local musicians like to gather here.
