St. Peter's Cathedral
Description:
As a rule, visiting the Vatican, tourists are limited to sensational sights, such as the world-famous Via della Conciliation (which translates as “reconciliation street”) and St. Peter’s Square, and of course St. Peter’s Cathedral itself. Visits to the rest of the country are not available.
However, there is still a chance to see the inner life of the Vatican, and its name is the observation deck on the roof of St. Peter’s Cathedral. To get to this unique structure, you need to take a special elevator to the lower edge of the dome, from where the path opens to the balcony inside the dome, and then overcome the spiral staircase, numbering more than five hundred steps! The enchanting unique view that opens from this small observation deck is more than worthy of spending time and energy on the climb.
Descent from the observation deck is also not deprived of pleasant bonuses. Descending from the top of the dome of the cathedral on the paved roof is waiting for a shop with souvenirs. It is difficult to say for sure, but most likely it is the only souvenir shop in the world located right on the roof of the Cathedral.
Many guests of the Vatican, tourists and pilgrims, visiting St. Peter’s Cathedral, do not climb the observation deck, because they simply do not know about it. And after all, this highlight is sometimes not enough to fall in love with this beautiful, historically and spiritually rich state.
