Via Venetto Street
Via Venetto runs from Piazza Barberini to Porta Pinciana. Metro station: m. Barberini (Line A)
Description:
The area where now is perhaps the most famous and, undoubtedly, the most visited street Via Veneto, even in ancient Rome was a focus of luxury – this area was a suburb of Rome and there were luxurious villas of the local aristocracy. The former grandeur of the ancient Empire can be seen today on Piazza Sallustio Street, where excavations are being conducted.
From the middle of the fifth century, after the collapse of the Empire, to the seventeenth century, the area of Via Veneto was uninhabited and abandoned, but everything changed when such magnificent palaces as the Palazzo Beberini and the Ludovisi Vila were built here. The design and construction of the Via Veneto began a little later - at the end of the XIX century. Since then, the street has become the most elegant and sophisticated street in Rome. There are many boutiques and luxury hotels of the XIX century, and the variety of cafes and restaurants is breathtaking. By the way, Via Veneto became the “actress” of the outstanding director Federico Fellini – it was here that the main character of the film “Sweet Life” was caught by the paparazzi.
Particular attention to Via Veneto deserves Casino del Aurora, the ceiling of which is decorated with frescoes of Guercino, creating the impression that the building has no ceiling.
