Tempio Pausania and Ajus: acquaintance with cork production
Description:
In order to experience the life of the Sardinians and see the island from the inside, we suggest you to delve a little deeper into the center of Sardinia and go to Tempio Pausania, which is famous for its carnivals held here in February. Well, in summer it is a very nice town with narrow streets, along which are crowded low houses of granite, wide squares and a large number of churches.
The very name of the city – Tempio – is translated from Italian – “temple”. The journey to Tempio from the famous Costa Smeralda takes only about an hour, and on the way you will visit another beautiful place – a garden with millennial olive trees. The oldest tree reaches 12 meters in circumference and is over 3000 years old. Also in Tempio you will get acquainted with the pottery production of Sardinia and can not only buy souvenirs, but also make them yourself. In addition, you will learn the secrets of cork production and learn how widespread its use. Even at the entrance to the city, you can see the factories where cork oak bark is processed, and in Tempio itself you can go to one unusual store, where you will see how bark is used when sewing clothes.
Then you will travel back in time to 3,500 years and see the mystical stone structures in the form of towers - nurage, and our guide will tell you what they could serve. For lunch we suggest you go to the estate of the famous Italian singer Fabrizio di Andre, where you can taste the dishes of the local Gallurez cuisine. After lunch, visit another city - Ajus, which houses a museum of banditry. Here you will be told stories from which the blood freezes in the veins. The other museum is ethnographic. Visiting it, you will plunge into the life of the sards, see how their houses are arranged, as well as in what crafts they have succeeded. And near the center of Ajus there is a very romantic place - a small lake, on the islets of which ducks and turtles bask in the sun.
