Via San Francesco D'Assisi, 11, 10122 Torino, Italy
Description:
The Monastery Church of St. Francis of Assisi is a church in Turin, Italy. It is located in the city center on the street of the same name. It is one of the oldest churches in Turin.
The original monastery church of St. Francis of Assisi was founded in 1214. The architect Wittone, together with a student of Cuarini, remade it in 1716. In the XVI century, when the cathedral was repaired, the Shroud of Turin was kept here. In this church, the first mass after the initiation was served by John Bosco, later listed as a saint, the founder of the Salesian Order, whose main task was the salvation and education of homeless children. Here, in Turin, he met a child who inspired him to create the Order of the Salesians.
Inside the church are three naves and six chapels. There are many beautiful works here, including the beautiful part of the Zukkari altar. The altar represents Our Lady with the Child and Saints Anne, Catherine and Frances. Vuitton decorated the interior with multicolored marble. The Chapel of the Society of St. Anne in the Church of St. Francis of Assisi was erected in 1636 by artists and craftsmen who came seasonally from Piedmont to the areas adjacent to Lake Lugano for work on the construction of the duchy.
