Description:

This Baroque church, built in honor of Our Lady, is popular among tourists and the largest domed church in Venice.

The temple was built in the seventeenth century by architect Balthazar Longhena to commemorate the end of the plague epidemic that wiped out almost a third of the population of Venice. Inside the temple there are three altarpieces of Luca Giordano: "Christmas", "Ascension" and "Introduction of the Virgin Mary into the temple". Also in the temple there are sculptures by Giusto La Corte and paintings by Titian and Tintoretto. In the center of the altar is exalted the icon “Madonna of Salute” (“Our Lady Healer”), which was brought from the island of Crete.
