Skalci Church

Description:

The Church of Scalzi is located in Cannaregio. The main facade overlooks the Grand Canal, by the Scalzi Bridge behind the train station. Its name was given by the name of the "barefoot" (in Italian - scalzi) Carmelite monks who founded it in the XVII century. Construction took 35 years. Vaults of chapels in the XVIII century painted Tiepolo. In 1915, a bomb was fired by Austrian troops. The bomb destroyed the roof and destroyed the Tiepolo mural.

The last doge of Venice, Lodovico Manin, was buried in this church.
