Monument to Bartolomeo Colleoni
Description:
The monument to the famous condottière general Bartolomeo Colleoni is located in Venice. The monument was built in the fifteenth century. The author of the statue was the Florentine sculptor Andrea Verocchio. The monument was commissioned by the leaders of the republic.
The author of the monument depicted a powerful horse made of bronze, which slightly raised his leg. A few strands of mane curl up the animal's neck. The harness of the horse is decorated with decorative ornament, on which there is also the author’s signature. He holds a rider on his back. The strained muscles of the horse indicate that the rider has considerable weight.
The rider stepped forward with one shoulder. He holds the reins in his right hand and a rod in his left hand. His face expresses ruthlessness towards the enemy. It's an image of a passionate warrior. It is as if he were looking at the battlefield in front of him.
