Piazza San Marco

Surrounded by monuments of world culture, this place literally breathes history and attracts travelers to its piazzettas. "The most beautiful salon of Europe" - so Napoleon called the famous central square of Venice.

Dominant of the square is considered the Doge's Palace - a monument of Italian Gothic architecture and the main building of the whole of Venice, as well as the bell tower of the Basilica of St. Mark located at some distance.

You can not ignore the Cathedral of St. Mark, which is generously decorated with mosaics made in the Byzantine style. The cathedral is the last resting place of the relics of the Apostle Mark, and under its vaults there are many valuable objects of art taken from Constantinople during the Crusades.
