Excursion to Preah Vihea Temple

Description:

Located in the disputed territory between Cambodia and Thailand, Preah Vihea Temple is one of the most prominent creations of the Khmer Empire. It is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as an independent cultural site. The uniqueness of the temple is expressed in its architectural solution, which fits into the natural environment and allows the temple to perform its religious function, as well as in the high artistic value of decorative elements carved on stone.

The temple is located on the top of a 650-meter mountain, offering stunning views of the northwestern part of the country. On the territory of the temple there is a small military base - separate military houses, a point of observation for Thai border guards. The military will accompany you everywhere. But don't be afraid! This will only make your journey unconventional. The temple is officially open to tourists. Preah Vihea began building Yashowarman I in 893. He built the temple of Shiva Shikhareshvara (God of the Top). Subsequent kings of the Khmer Empire, including Suryavarman II and the spiritual mentor and counselor Divakarapandit, restored the old and built new structures.
