Siem Reap

Individual tour with a professional guide.

Description:

The Khmer civilization is often identified with monuments on the Angkor Plain, where cities arose very close to each other, and sometimes in the same place. Although most of Cambodia’s architectural masterpieces are located in this area, some notable structures are found elsewhere. In addition to the traditional, there are little-known routes – sometimes difficult to pass, but the charm of the places through which they run, pays off such efforts.

Sambor Prey Cook is a pre-Angkor town. It stands far from the busy modern highways – over 30 kilometers from the nearest city of Kampong Thom – and the most enthusiastic people get to it. And their efforts are worth it. Having visited Sambor Prey Cook, concerned travelers, as in a time machine, find themselves in the pre-Angkor past of the country. And, to their surprise, they learn that it was not primitive, that the temples of Angkor had predecessors, that the country already had large cities in the VI century. Sambor Prey Cook is a really big city - about a kilometer in radius, and there are some buildings far beyond this perimeter. It is known that the city was the center of Chenla Zemlya (Chenla Water was located in the south of Phnom Penh), a state consisting of relatively independent principalities. Statues that once stood in the temples of the city, and are now stored in the National Museum in Phnom Penh, thanks to their features, gave the name to the whole style in sculpture: it is so called – the style of Sambor Prey Cook. He owns one of the most beautiful sculptures found in Cambodia - the figure of Devi, the wife of Shiva, full of confident restraint and mature female beauty. Today, its copy meets travelers at Siem Reap International Airport.

Halfway to visit the ancient Bantey Kdei Bridge.
