The main mosque of Agadir
Description:
The main mosque of Agadir is a new modern building, which is not without elegance. Interestingly, all Moroccan minarets of mosques have a square shape in the cross section, not round. A large cedar door decorated with carved murals is very slow to open and, unfortunately, the entrance to Moroccan mosques for people of non-Islamic faith is strictly prohibited. Only two mosques are open to visitors of any religion - in the city of Fez and Casablanca. Note that this ban was imposed not by spiritual rulers, but by the French colonial authorities in the first half of the 20th century. The fact is that the French soldiers behaved obscenely in the mosque and sometimes allowed themselves to enter there on horseback. To avoid quarrels and clashes with the indigenous population on the grounds of religion, this law was introduced, which is still in force.
