Permafrost Valley
gurvan-Sayhan Reserve, Pad Yelyn- Am
Description:
One of the most unusual sights of Mongolia is located at the foot of the Gurvan Saikhan mountains. At an altitude of 2109 meters there is a pad of Yelyn-Am, in which cold reigns all year round, streams are bound by ice and even snow falls in summer.
The mountain cleft is a narrow passage with sheer cliffs. If two people hold hands, they can reach the opposite edge of the gorge. The fall of Yelyn-Am was formed as a result of a strong earthquake that literally split the mountain in two.
On its bottom in the summer is a mountain stream, bound by ice in the rest of the year. After heavy rains, it fills almost the entire gorge, and four powerful waterfalls feed it from the slopes. In the rocks on the slopes there are several species of hawks, especially many lambs here, which is why the gorges are sometimes called the lamb’s fall.
Pad Yelyn-Am is located near the tourist base "Zhuulchin Gobi-1", from which it is most convenient to organize tours to the reserve. And if for the most part to travel in Mongolia is quite comfortable and even hot, to visit the Padi you just need warm things.
