Bogdihan's Palace
Bogd Khaan Palace Museum, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
Description:
The Bogdykhan dynasty ruled Mongolia during the last years of Chinese occupation. Later, they became the head of the administration of the country, as well as "sacred leaders" - spiritual mentors until joining the Soviet bloc. Today, their palace complex is one of the most visited historical and architectural monuments.
Previously, the Bogdykhans were only spiritual leaders and mentors, being in fact the rulers of the Mongolian Lamaist Church. But later, as de facto proteges of the Tibetan Dalai Lamas, they began to exert a strong influence on the secular life of the country.
The palace of Bogdihan is now turned into a museum that tells about the activities of several generations. It was built by the last ruler of Mongolia Javdzandamba Hutugt and is a winter and summer palace. They are built in traditional Chinese style.
Among the exhibits of the museum, the main place is occupied by an art gallery with portraits of representatives of the dynasty, as well as some personal belongings of the khans. For example, a leafy sandalwood cap was given to the first Bogdykhan by the Dalai Lama, considering him a living reincarnation of Buddha Vazhradhara.
