Mount Ih Bogd Wool

Mongolia, Ulan Bator

Description:

Ishi-Bogd-Uul is a mountain belonging to the Hentay mountain system with an altitude of 2256.3 meters. In the south, the mountain adjoins the capital of Mongolia - the city of Ulaanbaatar.

According to history, it was here that Genghis Khan spent the winter of 1225-1226, resting before a campaign on the Tanguts. Many researchers believe that he introduced a ban on deforestation, hunting on the territory of the mountain. Having made a kind of protected area here, Genghis Khan hid here clothes, armor and weapons.

Mount Ikh-Bogd-Uul is rich in natural fossils such as lime dark gray sandstone, quartz-clay dark gray shales on the north side, and higher in the mountains there is fine-grained white and yellow biotite granite. In 1996, Ikh-Bogd-Uul Mountain was included in the UNESCO Heritage List.
