Mount Uushgiin-Wul

52 Km by Hohoteyn Dugang, Suhbaatar, Mongolia

Description:

The top of Uushgiin-Uul near Muren is famous for its funerary mound. During the Stone and Iron Age, nomadic tribes of livestock breeders lived here. Their funeral rite is known for its deer stones.

At the foot of Mount Uushgiin-Uul is one of the largest ancient burials, marked by 14 deer stones. They are vertical stone blocks facing the east. Their surface is completely covered with runic signs, images of animals and hunting scenes.

The height of these stones sometimes exceeds five meters, and the skill of engraving amazes modern historians. To date, no tools have been found with which it would be possible to so carefully and skillfully perform drawings of galloping deer. Some stones depict strange animals - remotely similar to deer, but they have a long curved beak.

Very near the foot of Uushgiin-Uul mountain, near the Hadag spring there is another burial with five deer stones.
