Lake Ubsu Nuur

-

Description:

The largest lake in Mongolia is located in the Kotlovina of large lakes and is called Uvs. This saltwater body, like many others, was formed as a result of ancient volcanic activity in one of the large craters in the valley. Located at an altitude of 750 meters, it is protected by UNESCO World Heritage.

Several thousand years ago, the shores of the lake were densely populated by ancient tribes. Today, archaeologists have discovered several dozen large mounds, deer stones and many runic inscriptions on the vaults of caves and walls of rocky cliffs.

The valley of Lake Uvs has a special microclimate, combining several natural zones. Today there are several research bases engaged in the study of biosphere phenomena. Otherwise, the lake valley is an untouched corner of natural nature, where even tourists rarely get out. The nearest settlement - the city of Ulangom is 27 kilometers in the south-west.
