Suhe Bator Square
Ulaanbaatar, Suhe Bator Square
Description:
The central square of the capital of Mongolia is named after the leader of the people's revolution Sukhe Bator. In the center of the square is a grand monument dedicated to this outstanding person.
Before the revolution, there was an undeveloped open area, where spontaneous bazaars and markets often appeared. Although there were Buddhist temples around, rich houses of nobility and clergy. Now along the perimeter of the square is the building of the Government Palace, at the entrance of which are sculptures of Genghis Khan and his two commanders. Nearby are the Opera and Ballet Theater, the Stock Exchange building and the printing house.
But the main attraction of the square is its central statue. On a high pedestal, surrounded by desert lions, Sukhe Bator froze on his horse. His hand extends forward at the moment of fiery speech, a fragment of which is immortalized in the pedestal “If our people merge their thoughts together, unite all forces and go to one goal, there will be nothing unattainable, there will be nothing that they do not know and do!”
