Freshwater Lake Har Us Nuur

Kotlovina National Park of Large Lakes, western Mongolia

Description:

The second largest freshwater lake in Mongolia is located on the territory of the Kotlovina reserve of large lakes. Translated from Mongolian Har-Us-Nuur means "Black water". And indeed, the color of water is not just dark or dark blue, but rich deep black. This is caused by a large amount of mineral and organic substances accumulating at the bottom for several hundred years.

The lake is divided by the island of Ak-Bashi into two interconnected reservoirs called Dalai. Several small rivers flow into them, forming a wide delta. The local shores and the nearest territory are sparsely populated, and the local population is represented by nomadic livestock breeders.
