Durgen Nuur Salt Lake
Dorgon Nuur lake, West Mongolia
Description:
One of the most picturesque national parks in Mongolia is called the Kotlovina of Large Lakes. On its territory there are about two dozen reservoirs formed as a result of tectonic activity. Among the salt lakes of this national park, it is worth paying attention to Lake Durgen Nuur.
The valley of the lake is a low winding shore, covered with barchans and salt marshes. If you look at the elevation of the coast, it is easy to imagine that once this system of lakes was one whole. Today, salt lakes in the valley gradually dry up, leaving behind a crust of lifeless soil on which nothing alive grows. Like all water bodies of the valley, Lake Durgen Nuur belongs to the category of specially protected area.
