Salt Lake Härgas Nuur

Located in the basin of the Great Lakes in western Mongolia

Description:

The largest salt lake in Mongolia is located in the Kotlovina of large lakes. Härgas Nuur is not only full-water, but also surprisingly comfortable for tourists. Despite the fact that every year the lake shrinks a little, leaving behind stony layered terraces, it is one of the most pleasant places to relax.

Härgas nur has a sandy and pebble bottom, in the deepest places covered with a small layer of organic silt. The area around the lake is quite deserted due to its strong mineralization. Retreating, the water leaves lifeless shores covered with a layer of salt, on which nothing grows.

The surface of the lake warms up strongly and its temperature rarely falls below 20 degrees. The average temperature in shallow water is about 27-30. Even in mid-December, the lake freezes only partially.

The surrounding nature differs from the main part of the basin of large lakes - more desert, little vegetation. Only a few nomadic families live nearby, but they are very friendly to tourists and willingly invite to their yurts.
