Tourist complex "Monument of Genghis Khan"

54 km southeast of Ulaanbaatar in Tsongjin-Boldog Somon Erdene Aimak Tuve, Mongolia

Description:

The monument to Genghis Khan can be seen from afar. This colossal statue unambiguously reflects the greatness of the national hero of Mongolia and all the delight of the people honoring the “father of the nation”. The construction of the monument took three years, $ 4 million and 250 tons of stainless steel. The statue is considered the main attraction of the country.

The monument, opened in 2008, was built on a grand scale. Sitting on a horse, Genghis Khan is not only the largest equestrian statue in the world (the height of the monument is 40 meters excluding the 10-meter pedestal). The two-storey base of the monument houses a museum, an art gallery, a souvenir shop, etc. And around it, over time, it is planned to place a whole town of yurts, which, according to the plan, will be a thematic town that reveals all aspects of Mongolian life.

Very attractive is the unusual observation deck, arranged in the eyes of the Khan horse at an altitude of 30 meters above the ground. In spring, during the flowering of tulips, the view from here opens extraordinary.

The location for the statue was also not chosen by chance. The Mongols believe that it was on the hill where the monument was erected that their great history began. In 1177, the young Temuuzhin (the future Genghis Khan) found a golden whip here - a symbol of great luck. Temujin regarded the find as a sign given by the gods to fulfill his long-held dream of uniting the disparate Mongol tribes. In 1206 he proclaimed the creation of Greater Mongolia, one of the largest empires in history.
