Khorgo volcano

In the east of Lake Terchiina Tsagaana, Oblast. archangai

Description:

Horgo Uul is one of the oldest currently defunct volcanoes in the Arkhangai region, which is now a national nature reserve. Once the eruption of this volcano radically changed the surrounding landscape and even changed the outline of the shores of Lake Terchiina Tsagaana.

The height of Horgo Ulvul is 2240 meters. The entire surface of the mountain is covered with dark basalt, which makes it seem incredibly black against the background of the surrounding landscape. Lava flows buried almost all vegetation, which made the landscape rocky and completely unsuitable for life. On the southern slope there is an interesting place "Yurta Basal" - a huge frozen bubble of lava, which fell off one of the walls, forming a kind of door.

One of its slopes, the volcano rests on Lake Terchiina Tsagaana. There are many species of animals - deer, beavers, boars. On this side of the volcano, the soil resembles black pumice, completely covering rocky gorges and cracks. The main camp near the volcano is almost within walking distance from the largest cave, whose height reaches about 8 meters.
