Ulaangom Airport

Ulaangom Airport is located near the namesake city in Mongolia. It is necessary to overcome only one and a half kilometers from the airport, and you will find yourself in the city of the same name. The name “Ulaangom” literally translates as “red valley”, and from what this name came, hardly anyone will remember. Ulaangom Airport was founded almost half a century ago. There are direct flights to Ulaanbaatar, but there are no direct flights to other cities in Mongolia.

Until recently, Ulaangom airport was not in demand at all. This was eloquently evidenced by the overgrown grass area of the airport. This lack of demand is explained very easily - Ulaangom accepts only Mongolian flights, and all international flights go to the airports of Genghis Khan, Ulgiy and Khovd. This is not surprising: the above-mentioned airports are large in size and have all the facilities for accepting many international flights, while Ulaangom Airport does not boast a large territory.

In 2007 it was decided to reconstruct the airport. Now it boasts a new runway, which, although not large in scale, is quite suitable for local flights.
