Mahagandayon Monastery
Description:
Mahagandayon Monastery is located in the small ancient city of Burma Amarapura, which is 11 kilometers from Mandalay. This is the largest monastery in Burma, the abode and place of meditation of one and a half thousand monks. Part of the monastery is occupied by the famous theological school dedicated to the original teachings of the Buddha. Children are often sent to this monastery to receive primary education.
Every day at 10:30 the monks leave their cells to eat the food that the locals donate to them. Tourists are allowed to attend the meal, but it is done in complete silence. Visitors are also allowed to enter the monastery and get acquainted with the local way of life.
