Umin-Tounze Caves

Sagain, Myanmar

Description:

Umin Tounze Caves are located on Sagain Hill in Myanmar and are a popular tourist attraction.

In fact, in this case, the caves are just a name, because in their essence, Umin Tounze are covered galleries that house 45 different Buddha statues. Local guides prefer to call this building “man-made caves”, and its name translates as “thirty cave pagodas”.

In fact, the temple is one long gallery built along the hill, which has thirty deep entrances, creating the illusion that the hill is permeated with caves. The building is decorated with gold ornament both outside and inside, which makes it very elegant and festive. Inside the temple, you will see 45 Buddha statues arranged in a wide arc. The favorable number 45 corresponds to the age at which Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment and became a Buddha.
