What do tourists need to know about the Cuban sanitary tax or biosecurity tax?
Russian media, citing Cuban sources, reported that Cuba From December 1, introduces a sanitary fee of $ 30.
It covers the cost of a coronavirus PCR test and the cost of other medical protocols when foreigners enter the country.
The Cuban Embassy in Moscow said the sanitary or biosafety tax will be introduced from December 1, but it applies to passengers who fly to Havana.
Cuban authorities are negotiating with foreign carriers planning flights to Havana to include a sanitary fee in the price of the ticket.
That is, booking a ticket for a regular flight to Havana, the traveler will see in the column "taxes and taxes" a note that the cost of transportation includes sanitary tax.
There are no direct flights between Moscow and Havana. Two Russian carriers Nordwind Airlines (PEGAS Touristik tour operator) and AZUR air (ANEX Tour and Intourist tour operators) operate flights to the resort of Cayo Coco, where PCR tests are done for tourists for free.
As for charter flights to Cuban resorts, including Cayo Coco, there were no negotiations with foreign airlines on the issue of sanitary tax.
It is not necessary to speed up this process: Russians arriving in Cayo Coco have health insurance coverage with COVID-19, and in case of detection of coronavirus, their treatment will be paid.
Organized Russian tourists arriving in the resorts of the country on charters, the introduction of the sanitary tax will not notice.
“No additional payment will be required on their part. The PCR test for Russian tourists remains free, the Cuban Embassy in Moscow said.
The Cuban diplomatic mission reminded that Russian tourists to Cayo Coco do not need a 5-day quarantine - this requirement applies to foreigners who arrive on regular flights to Havana.
