"Phenomenal success" for the industry: Association of Tour Operators of the Russian Federation held a press conference

The May holidays were a "phenomenal success" for the industry. So said ATOR Executive Director Maya Lomidze at a press conference on May 18.

At the beginning of May, the demand for holidays in the Black Sea resorts of Russia increased from 50 to 70%, and, according to ATOR estimates, every fifth “new” tourist who visited the regions of Russia this year will return after the opening of the borders.

The volume of tourist flow to the Crimea and the resorts of the Krasnodar Territory for the first decade of May this year, in comparison with 2019, increased by 70% and 50%, respectively.

Analysts of ATOR believe that a large role in stimulating the domestic tourist flow was played by the cashback campaign: at least 20% of tourists are people who did not plan to go anywhere, but because of the action gathered on a tour of Russia.

Maya Lomidze is confident that about 20% of new tourists who visited the regions of the Russian Federation for the first time this year will return.

In 2021, the list of regions in which tourism went on the rise due to a combination of factors (quality tourism product, government support, cashback, promotion), in addition to resorts in the south of Russia, included such “non-beach” regions of Buryatia, Tyumen, Murmansk region, Altai (Altai Republic and Altai Territory), Chelyabinsk and Leningrad region, Karelia, Kaliningrad. The demand for Kamchatka and recreation in the Samara region is growing.

ATOR forecasts a 50-60% increase in demand for river cruises in Russia and for rail travel in the summer.
