The head of the Russian Union of Travel Industry listed trends in the development of tourism in the near future
President of the Russian Union of Travel Industry (RST) Andrey Ignatiev called the trends of tourism development in the coming years.
Among them - the priority of individual travel, the popularity of organized tours, increased requirements for security.
As part of the cooperation program, RST and the Russian State University of Tourism and Service (RSUTIS) conducted a study and gathered opinions of leading industry professionals on the prospects of the industry in the coming years.
- The first trend is “... travel should be more individualized with each client in mind.” We are already seeing this trend. Such types of tourism as adventure, gastronomic, medical get a new impetus for development. Autotourism is actively developing in Russia and other countries. For example, in China, tourists put a guide in their personal transport and travel quite long distances.”
- The second trend concerns organized tourism. According to Ignatiev, thanks to the pandemic, the business of tour operators and travel agencies got a chance and demand for customers.
- The third trend is increasing travel safety requirements, including from a medical point of view.
- The fourth trend we are already seeing is a decrease in sales depth. Previously, the average depth was 2-3 months <...> Now the average depth of sales is 2-3 weeks maximum. This is fundamentally changing the technology of tourism.”
- The fifth trend is the focus on training for tourism: “People play a major role in the travel experience. “Personnel training and training of these people are becoming the most urgent task for the industry.”
According to the UN World Tourism Organization, 2020 was the worst year for tourism in a long time. The number of international arrivals fell by 74%, industry revenue fell by $ 1.3 billion, disappeared to 120 million jobs. At the same time, the crisis could reshape the industry and help scale up digital innovation.
