Georgia opens borders to Russians from March 1

The order is due to come into force on March 1.

Prime Minister Georgia On February 24, Irakli Garibashvili announced the addition of Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine to the list of countries from which citizens will be able to enter the republic by air with a document that will confirm a negative PCR test for coronavirus.

“At this stage, the existing regime will remain at the land borders,” the First Channel of Georgia said.

Before that, only citizens of the European Union, Bahrain, Israel, UAE, Saudi Arabia, the United States and Switzerland could enter the country with a document on the results of the PCR test. Other foreigners were required to provide a certificate of completion of the full course of vaccination, and Russians – from February 1.

Russians will be able to get to Georgia only through third countries, since since July 2019, the Russian authorities have indefinitely banned air communication with this state. The Kremlin called this decision forced against the background of the unstable political situation in the republic. The land border between Russia and Georgia was closed in March 2020 due to a coronavirus pandemic.
