How and where did the Russians spend their vacation 2020?
Experts of the analytical center NAFI surveyed 1,600 users in 53 regions: it turned out that 81% of respondents did not rest in the summer.
Most of them are residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg (86%) and people 60 years and older (90%).
The NAFI specialist reports: “Muscovites and St. Petersburg residents more often than other residents of Russia go to rest abroad – to the sea – in the summer holiday season <...> under the current restrictions, many residents of the two capitals stayed at home <...> in these cities, the leisure sphere is well developed, there is an opportunity to relax and get new impressions without leaving their borders.”
19% of Russians were able to go on a summer vacation, and in the spring, 9% had such plans: “Such a two-fold excess is associated with the general fatigue of the population from restrictions due to the pandemic, and with the active actions of all players in the tourist market,” Ivankova says. Rostourism together with leading tour operators formed new products, much attention was paid to the promotion of recreation within the country.
Compared to 2019, the tourist flow fell by 10%. As long as there are restrictions on entry to many countries, it is a slight drop.
Russians, who still broke out on vacation, most often moved by car – their number is 63% of all travelers.
16% travelled by plane or train and 5% by bus. For comparison: according to a survey by NAFI in April, the majority of Russians were going to get to the resting place by plane - 84%, and only 41% by car.
