How do Russians feel about early bookings in the current situation?

According to Wordstat, the number of queries in the search engine “Yandex” on the topic “Early booking” fell almost 4 times. In September 2019, there were 52,650, and in 2020 – 13,437.

The downward trend manifested itself in the fall of 2019 and became apparent in January-February 2020, when the spread of the coronavirus became a major topic in the media.

In September, the incidence rate in Russia became worse, and the interest of potential tourists to buy tours and air tickets began to decline.

Now the depth of sales in travel agencies is no more than a week, and it is impossible to determine when this period will end. During the calm years, the tourist market woke up from the winter lull in the second half of January – early February, and tourists planned a summer vacation, but now due to existing and potential restrictions on the movement of tourists, planning is difficult.

Sales for the New Year holidays and winter holidays on popular destinations in Russia such as the resorts of Krasnaya Polyana remain relatively active.

Early bookings are hampered by the uncertain situation with the coronavirus and the decline in the solvency of tourists: business from entrepreneurs has suffered, and employees are experiencing a reduction in wages / layoffs.

For the travel market, this means that travel agencies, tour operators, and airlines are waiting for a few more uncertain months.
