Russia opens flights with Ethiopia and Seychelles

According to the decision of the government, the Moscow-Addis-Ababa aircraft will fly three times a week, and twice to Victoria.

“The decision was made based on the previously announced epidemiological criteria (40 new cases of coronavirus infection within 14 days per 100 thousand population, no more than one percent for 14 days of daily increase in new cases and the incidence rate of a new coronavirus infection for seven days is not more than one) and on the basis of the principles of reciprocity,” the government said.

Russia is not included in the list of countries whose citizens can enter the Seychelles on commercial flights, but tourists can get to the islands in three ways.

The first is to survive a 14-day quarantine in a Category 1 country. The second is to fly in a business jet and live in a certified resort. The third is to sail on a yacht and live on it.

Direct flights to the Seychelles were not announced by Russian airlines - Russia is not included in the list of "safe" countries of category 1 or 2.

In 2019, 12,403 Russians arrived in the country – 9.16% more than in 2018.

Seychelles for Russians has always been a tour operator destination: almost 80% of Russians vacationing in the Seychelles, choose to organize a trip through a tour operator.

Due to the lack of direct (charter) transportation and the specifics of the hotel base of Seychelles, the most expensive tour in 2019 was sold to the islands.

To enter Ethiopia, Russians need a visa - a tourist visa is issued upon arrival in Addis Ababa, the rest of the documents - through the embassy.

Entry rules: Passengers (except children under 12 years of age) must submit a negative COVID-19 PCR test no older than 120 hours before boarding.

Ethiopian Airlines has tickets to Moscow. You can fly from Moscow to Addis Ababa from 28.4 thousand rubles per person in one direction. This is a direct flight with a stop in Athens. Travel time is 9 hours 25 minutes. Flights three times a week.

Ethiopia is a niche tourist destination for Russians. In 2019, 6,427 Russians visited the country, including 4,220 tourists.

Organized tourism from the Russian Federation to Ethiopia was not developed, the direction was rather successful with a few independent travelers.
