Will the Russians go on New Year holidays sooner?
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the return to remote mode of work and study, Russians may begin their New Year holidays earlier than in previous years.
The Biletix service reported that the share of bookings for flights departing on December 25-31 increased from 55 to 75% compared to 2019.
The remaining 25% are on flights departing from 1 to 10 January. Pay air passengers also have less – the average check for roundtrip tickets in the country decreased by 15% – from 9499 to 8130 rubles.
That is, the fall in prices continued, but slowed down, as on departures in November, this amount changed compared to the indicators of 2019 by 38% – from 7817 to 4363 rubles.
Due to the inaccessibility of most foreign destinations, the geography of New Year flights has changed. 97% of early bookings for the New Year were in Russia, and in 2019 – 52%.
Demanded destinations for domestic passengers - Sochi, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Krasnodar. A similar picture is observed with sales of New Year tours, where two-thirds (65%) are accounted for by domestic destinations, and the leaders are coastal hotels in Sochi and Krasnaya Polyana.
Before the New Year, the situation may change. According to experts, the depth of bookings for flights and tours has recently become short due to the ongoing coronavirus infection and a return to quarantine measures.
