Thailand to open to vaccinated tourists in July

Thailand’s Cabinet of Ministers has approved the principles behind a project to open a number of islands to non-quarantine foreign tourists vaccinated against COVID-19.

The island province of Phuket will open to foreign visitors on July 1 and the islands of Koh Samui, Phangan and Tao on July 15. The Cabinet’s decision to approve the principles of the program for opening island tourist areas will come into force from the moment of publication in the Royal Government Gazette, a special publication for new laws and by-laws.

Final decisions on the opening dates of these tourist zones will be made by the governors.

Phuket is being opened as part of the Phuket Tourist Sandbox pilot program. Its goal is to determine whether it is possible to keep the growth of COVID-19 infections at a low level in a separate tourist zone by allowing immunized foreigners there without going through quarantine. 70% of local residents were immunized.

Guests must present a full COVID-19 vaccination certificate with one of the vaccines recognized and approved by the World Health Organization (WHO). Injections should be given at least 14 days before arrival. You also need a negative PCR test done 72 hours before departure, medical insurance for the amount of coverage from 100 thousand dollars and permission to enter Thailand issued by the Embassy abroad.

During the stay in Phuket, tourists must pass three PCR tests: on the day of arrival at the airport, in a week and two weeks.
