Tourism and St. Petersburg authorities develop new routes for travelers
Tourism business St. Petersburg And the city authorities on the Neva River are thinking about new routes and places to travel, which will attract guests after the end of the coronavirus pandemic.
Sergey Korneev, Chairman of the Committee for Tourism Development of St. Petersburg: St. Petersburg is a world cultural destination. Tourism in the world was the first to suffer from the pandemic, and we are no exception. But it is important to us that professional tourist personnel work in the city. We are talking about the fact that one of the best infrastructures in Russia is located in our city. Our cultural potential is obvious, so a new cultural tourist geography is being developed in St. Petersburg. New routes, new areas, new places of tourist interest are constantly appearing in the city. All these places were unknown yesterday, but they should be interesting tomorrow.”
He is confident that the city should already think about attracting tourists after the end of the pandemic.
Marina Lipetskaya, Director of the North-West Center for Strategic Research Foundation, is sure that St. Petersburg should enter the market with new offers, then hotels will be well loaded in low seasons and the number of returning tourists will increase.
“In the city, points have been formed that are responsible for modernity, for youth and creative processes. And they can become an addition, and maybe even an alternative to our classic sights. This will interest returning tourists. The basis for this is interesting creative spaces (in the past industrial) for the placement of new workshops, events, arrangement of restaurants and modern facilities.”
The expert believes that it is important to promote the Northern Capital as a center of design, modern architecture, educational tourism, and the city needs new river routes, such as ecological and secluded tourism, to develop tourism.
Water tourism in St. Petersburg is a hub connecting us with the north-west. We need new water routes, we need to weaken the regulatory framework, increase the role of this way of life.”
In 2020, St. Petersburg received the World Travel Awards in the nomination “World leading cultural direction”. Rivals of the city on the Neva River are Paris, London, Rome, Venice, New York, Rio de Janeiro.
