Amsterdam for its own: the old side
Description:
We are in an amazing part of the city - some buildings here are already half a millennium old. This is how Peter I saw Amsterdam. Here are small houses, narrow streets and canals, here are the narrowest and oldest houses in the city, bars that have been operating for about five hundred years and at the same time belong to the same surname, amusing shops, colonial goods, delicious food and handmade chocolate. There are many stories and legends associated with these areas.
Let’s start with Amsterdam’s most beautiful cathedral and its many legends. Make sure we are really below sea level. Then we go around the cathedral on the left and instantly transport to the distant past. Let’s talk about how everything was arranged in the medieval city – from life and trade to the sewer system. We will go to the oldest house in Amsterdam and learn how monkeys worked in marketing. We’ll have a beer or coffee at one of the city’s oldest bars.
We'll walk through Chinatown. "" This neighborhood has been both respectable and vibrant, and now it's one of the most fun and cheerful neighborhoods. We will learn why the opinion that drugs are legalized in the Netherlands is wrong, why you can not trust your eyes in this city, how to decipher wall reliefs and where the largest Buddhist temple in Europe hides. If you wish, you can visit one of the dozens of Chinese, Thai, Argentine, Vietnamese, Javanese or other restaurants that fill the area.
Take a look at the “racing” factory hidden a stone’s throw from the royal palace. Be sure to taste – and in a very special way – several types of antique Geneva and find out why you need a great athletic form for tasting.
We will reach the main building of any commercial city - the House of Libra. We will look into the old pharmacy, learn the secret of the narrowest house and through the university quarter with graffiti, bookkeeper counters and charming courtyards we will go to a busy shopping street. There are many wonderful shops – from “everything for jugglers”, “crazy rubber stuff”, colonial goods and second hand with collectible dresses and accessories of the time of belle epoque to one of the best galleries of Dutch design.
In the Jewish Quarter, we will look into the ancient house of the gatekeeper, find out what is hiding inside the Amsterdam quarters, visit Rembrandt’s house. Through the seething flea market with vinyl, old books, antiques, ethnic clothing, various and cute things for any woman’s heart and stolen bicycles, we will reach synagogues – Sephardi and Ashkenazi. Let’s talk about the history of the Netherlands.
We will finish the walk at your request on the balcony of one of the most cozy and pretty cafes in the city hanging over the canal or at the ancient jewelry factory Gassan diamonds. Visitors to the factory receive a gift of tickets for an hour-long walk on a common boat through the canals of the city.
