"Holland for his own": from Amsterdam to Zanse Schans and Zaandam. Where does the wind come from?

Description:

Holland is tulips, bicycles, wooden klomp shoes and, of course, windmills! From Amsterdam Central Station we will go to Zanse Schans, a charming village that smells like chocolate. Let’s take a look at how and from what the oldest oil paints are made, and how those very cloggings are made. Let’s delve into the secrets of cheese making and the amazing secrets of the first store of the famous supermarket chain “Albert Hine”. Let’s talk about the characteristics of Dutch cows and when carrots turned orange and why. We will certainly learn about the Dutch sense of humor and the seriousness with which they approach modern architecture. And if we are lucky, we will meet the performer of one of the most famous hits of the last century.

First we look at the clock museum and the first Albert Hine store, opened in 1887 – here and began the history of one of the best supermarket chains in the world. In the museum, we learn about the incredible secrets of the store, about amazing inventions that in the XIX century helped to drive flies away from meat, did not let food spoil or protected the honest name of a bona fide debtor.

Then we will walk along the river, go to the paper, oil, mustard mills, as well as the only working mill where oil paints are still made, the secrets of the creation of which are carefully inherited. We will find out what paints were made of in Rembrandt’s time, and what role Russia played in this. In each of the mills we can see exactly how they work, go upstairs, admire the stunning panorama of the village and its surroundings, feel the thatched roof, and buy products that are produced here!

We will look at the grazing sheep, feed the goats, talk about amazing innovations in agriculture and, of course, try a lot of excellent cheeses, and from the local farm mustard will not give up. And at the same time we will understand how they are made and what relation Kostroma and Poshekhon cheeses have to the Netherlands.

We will look into the museum of wooden shoes - clomps, where they will be cut right before your eyes. We'll see wedding clumps and clumps to the frock couple, clump skates and clumps to the evening dress. Here you can buy real wooden or souvenir cloths for memory. And if you like the clompa in the colors of the latest collection of Dr. Marteens – no problem, there are such!

We will feed ducks and geese, buy souvenirs for memory and eat delicious pancakes, sitting on the street and enjoying the delightful landscape.

Find out what the polders are and what part of the Netherlands would have long ago shared the fate of Atlantis. We climb the wooden observation tower and see an endless panorama of polder fields.

After a rural walk, it is time to travel to Zaandam to see one of the most unusual hotels in the world, built from many small green houses. It stands against the backdrop of a similarly joyful green station building. From there we will go to the small house of Tsar Peter I, who lived here only a week, but managed to do a lot.

Finally, it’s time to enjoy real city joys – shopping and visiting local cafes.
