Paulus Potterstraat 14, 1071 CZ Oud-Zuid

About the company:

The museum was created by the oldest Dutch company "Bols", which was founded in 1575. In its walls, generic (juniper liqueur) has been produced since 1664. In the Bols House, visitors will be told all about liqueurs and cocktails, tell the history of the generic, show the ancient process of its preparation. Everyone will have the opportunity to taste the drink.

According to legend, Genever was invented by the Dutch chemist and alchemist Silvius de Bouvet, he also began to sell the drink at the end of the XVI century as a medicine. Time passed, and Gennever fell to the taste of even healthy citizens, while becoming a traditional Dutch liqueur.

The museum also gladly tells the story of Rembrandt’s relationship with company founder Lucas Bols, who were neighbors. For example, how Rembrandt once paid Bols with a painting of his student.
