Peru: ocean, mountains and jungle. 16 days

Description:

day. Arriving in Lima, the capital of Peru. Accommodation at a hotel in Miraflores. Dinner at a restaurant on the Pacific coast.

days. Examination of Lima. Walk through the historical center of the city (in 1988 it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List). Here you can see the Cathedral of Lima, the Palace of the Government, the Palace of the Archbishop, the Municipality and much more, including the famous wooden carved balconies in the Spanish-Moorish style, a legacy of the period of Spanish colonization. Visit the Bohemian district of Lima Barranco: a walk along the Bridge of Sighs, acquaintance with local graffiti and colorful shops of local atesania. In the evening, a walk along the embankment of Miraflores district, enjoying views of the Pacific Ocean and the coastal zone of the city. Dinner at the restaurant.

days. Flight to Arequipa. Get to know the city. About 2,300 meters above sea level. Arequipa is one of the most striking examples of Spanish colonial architecture in South America. The historic city center, which includes numerous colonial buildings built of white, volcanic stone in Spanish or Andalusian style, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000.

days. Early in the morning (about 7:10 – 7:30 am) departure from Arequipa towards the town of Chivai, where we will spend the night before visiting the observation deck of Colca Canyon. The journey will take about 5.5 hours. On the way, we will see the volcanoes Chachani, Misti and Pichupichu, grazing vicunia, alpaca and llamas in the Pampa Cañahuas National Park. Our way will pass through the high-mountain plain of Pampa de Toccra with its beautiful lagoons, which is a shelter for various species of birds. Then we will arrive at the highest point of our way - the observation deck "Pata Pampa", which is located at an altitude of 4910 meters above sea level and offers a magnificent view of volcanoes and snow-covered mountain peaks. Arrival in the town of Chivai (about 3,635 m above sea level). Hotel accommodation. In the afternoon, a trip to the hot, thermal springs where you can swim and relax.

days. Early in the morning (approximately 6:00 – 6:30 in the morning) departure from the hotel towards the famous observation deck “la Cruz del Cóndor”, where you can watch the flight of one of the largest flying birds in the world – the Andean condor. The wingspan of this huge, beautiful bird is about 3 meters! The journey takes about 2 hours. On the way back to Chivai we will see several traditional Andean villages and enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery. In the middle of the day, leave for Puno, a city located on the shores of Lake Titicaca (about 3,800 above sea level). The journey will take approximately 6.5 hours.

days. A boat trip on Lake Titicaca with a visit to the famous reed islands of Uros (group tour). The islands are built by their inhabitants from totora, reed, in abundance growing off the coast of Titicaca. You will be able to communicate with the Uros Indians, see their way of life, practically unchanged for many centuries, taste the totora itself (they say that the elements contained in it allow you to make a smile snow-white), and also ride along the lake on a reed ship made by local craftsmen. In the afternoon, visit the ruins of Siystani, an ancient cemetery of the pre-Inca era with tombs in the form of towers of smooth stones of regular rectangular shape. It is located on the shore of the beautiful Lake Umayo, the calm surface of which resembles a mirror.

days. Transfer by comfortable bus to the city of Cusco, the ancient capital of the Incas (about 3400 m above sea level). Hotel accommodation. The move takes 6-7 hours. But the road to Cusco is very picturesque. It's definitely not going to be a walk in Cusco.

days. See the sights of the city. Visit the ancient Coricanche, the most important temple of the Inca Empire. During the Spanish colonization, it was destroyed, and a Catholic cathedral was built on its foundation. However, we can still observe outside and inside the temple famous masonry, created before the Inca Empire by unknown and mysterious masters.

days. Tracking to the "Rainbow Mountain" (mountain of seven colors). The hike is not easy, taking into account the large difference in altitude and requires sufficient (at least four to five days) acclimatization and good physical shape (three hours (approximately one-way journey time) will be made from 4300 to 5100 above sea level). But those who decide will get unforgettable impressions!

days. Departure to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, visit the ruins of the ancient city of Pisac, one of the largest cities of these places in the time of the Inca Empire. Visit to the ancient fortress of Oyantaimambo. The ruins not only preserve the memory of one of the greatest rulers of the Inca Empire, Pachacutecus, but also many more ancient mysteries. In the evening, move to Aguas Calientes, a hospitable town that is essentially the “gateway” to Machu Picchu.

days. Visiting the ancient city of Machu Picchu and climbing Huayna Picchu (possibly when booked a few months in advance), it is also possible to trek to the Gate of the Sun, which offers a fascinating view of the ruins of the ancient city and the surrounding mountains almost like the movie “Avatar”. Back to Cusco tonight.

days. Airport transfer. Flight to Lima. Continuing to explore the city.

days. Flight to Iquitos. A boat ride through the Amazon and its tributaries, watching local Indian villages along the river. Visiting the habitat of one of the local Indian tribes, acquaintance with their way of life, dialect and traditions. Upon arrival at the place - accommodation in the lodge, lunch. In the afternoon, a boat ride in search of gray and pink dolphins. Enjoying the sunset on the river.
